You have probably seen them; at the airport, on the beach,
in the park. Where ever there is a special scene, an unusual
occurrence, a meeting of friends and family, a sporting event
you will see them sometimes in their droves.
And what are they doing these digital imaging photographers?
They are capturing that magic moment in time that can never be
repeated. And they are doing it through the wonders of possibly
the most wonderful symbol of the digital age: The digital
camera.
Digital cameras come in all shapes and sizes and are capable
of capturing images either in high or low resolution. They can
be for the experienced photographer who wants their ideal
camera to be hand adjustable to allow complete control over
exposure and focus settings. For the novice in digital
photography, there are simple "point and shoot" cameras that
still take a pretty good shot.
With a digital camera everything looks so easy. However
there are techniques to be learned in digital photography that
will help the novice to produce more satisfying results.
Experienced digital photographers have long since learned to
treat the digital zoom with respect. If you ever see an
experienced digital photographer take a shot from really close
and asked yourself 'Why is not using the zoom lens?' The answer
is that the picture resolution is so much better if you shoot
from close up. On the other hand, if you do shoot form close
up; make sure that you get everything in the digital photo that
you want. That moment will be lost for ever.
Digital cameras come in all shapes and sizes. Some of the
semi-professional ones can be pretty bulky and quite heavy.
There are small, user friendly digital cameras that can fit in
the top pocket of your shirt, to be pulled out at a moments
notice.
What do all digital cameras have in common regardless of
their size and what they cost?
They all have LCD monitors to allow the digital imaging
photographer a pretty well full sized image of the shot they
are about to take. This is a great tool allowing the
photographer to check the shot before they take it, and to
adjust the range if need be for a second attempt if need
be.
Just remember that if you take to long to set up the shot,
the moment will have passed before you know it. Take as many
shots as you can, one of them will have to turn out to be a
good one!
There are probably tens of millions of digital imaging
photographers all over the globe, taking shots of their family,
your family, anything that fits into the frame. This is the one
of the wonders of the digital age that we are lucky to be
living in.
