Any self respecting digital photographer should take the time to get to know his camera fairly intimately.  Even though the temptation is to get out there and start pointing and shooting, every button and dial plays a role, and you will not the best out of your digital camera to you learn them. How you hold the camera is a basic skill that you will have to pick up fairly quickly. This will present uneven and distorted shots. How you press the shutter also plays a part, as well as the how you treat light, backgrounds, where the subjects are place in the shot, as well as what should appear or shouldn't appear in the background.

Many people are of the opinion that he better the camera the better the quality of the shot., Not necessarily, great photographs have been captured with a simple point and shoot camera and some real low level ones with a top of the range job. This adds to the point that the trickery is not in the equipment. The trickery comes from the person operating it that makes the shots good enough to bring them to the next stage in the process; digital enhancement. This is where the real trickery begins in digital photography, and the cream of the crop in enhancement software is Adobe Photoshop, the market leader and innovator from the very beginnings of digital imaging photography.

There are so many tips and tricks involved in operating Photoshop and every version that Adobe produces comes with another few added refinements to this user friendly software.

Photoshop can enhance images both for the web and for print. Every image captured by a digital camera is an individual file in its own right. For enhancement the image can be transformed to Photoshop's own file formula. In this formula any changes to be made to the image can be carried out easily. Images for the web need to be of lower resolution and color density.

If the image is meant to be uploaded to the internet, then the image should be saved in three color formula (Red, Green and Blue) known as RGB.

The most popular formula for a finished and enhanced image is in JPEG (Joint Photo Experts Group) which allows the compression of the image without losing too much of the resolution. This is more than adequate for web reproduction.

For high density printing the image should be a four color presentation known as CYMK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). Obviously the higher the density the better for printing. The difference between a computer screen and paper is that the color is absorbed into the paper and the stronger the colors, then the more outstanding the print.

So how you enhance your digital images is equally important as to how you take your shot. The final application of your images is determined by how and where it will be displayed.
